Description

Abdomen has less black than similar species. Legs are yellow (on younger bugs) to brown, not black. Face is reddish which can cause some confusion with Cherry-faced Meadowhawk. The triangular ovipositor on the female is distinctive. Uncommon statewide around wetlands and pools. This species is usually the last holdout of the season as winter approaches and during mild autmns may be found into November.
